There’s no better time than National Recovery Month to honor all those who are walking that brave path.
The Beckley Art Center and Raleigh County Prevention Coalition collaborated on their group exhibition: Purple for Recovery — filling the gallery with purple artwork.
“We are all affected by addiction or recovery in some capacity — whether that is ourselves, our family members, our friends,” said BAC executive director Mandy Lester. “I can’t tell you how many people I know that have lost loved ones to it.”
This special exhibit showcases pieces from people both in recovery and touched by addiction, demonstrating to others they are not alone in their struggles.
“It’s really nice to be able to show people that there can be beauty from the pain and that people get better and there are people that support them,” Lester said.
Purple for Recovery symbolizes how far many in the recovery community have come. Transformation from addiction is possible. We celebrate all those who wear their journey proudly and wisely.
Until this exhibit, Lester says she didn’t know that the color purple represented recovery.
“So I thought that that was just a really great way for us to pair up our color-themed exhibit with something so poignant and important as recovery,” the executive director said.
