Charleston,WV (WOAY)- A significant change is coming for water customers in Fayette County.
The Public Service Commission of West Virginia has officially approved the sale of Armstrong Public Service District’s water facilities to West Virginia American Water.
The move follows a 2023 order declaring Armstrong a failing utility.
Since then, West Virginia American Water has been operating the system under an emergency agreement.
On Monday, the commission gave the final green light for the sale, following the submission of a joint application by both companies and the passage of a resolution by the Fayette County Commission approving the deal.
Armstrong must complete its Powellton tank project before the sale is finalized.
The district currently serves 879 water customers, who will now transition to West Virginia-American Water’s system.
