Princeton football begins Phase One training

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – Following confirmation from the Board of Education Tuesday, Mercer County schools were able to begin strength and conditioning drills Wednesday, following Phase One of the WVSSAC guidelines.

Princeton football was among the schools taking advantage of the first available, holding sessions throughout Wednesday evening where student-athletes were split into groups to maintain social distancing.

Defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Davon Marion says it’s been a positive for both the players and coaches that they were able to begin training, and he says the coaches’ goal is to have players get to “football-ready” shape at a reasonable rate by the time the three-week practice period begins.

Greenbrier, Raleigh, and Summers counties are scheduled to begin Phase One on Monday, June 15, while schools in Wyoming County will start on June 22. Fayette County began Phase One earlier this week.
