UPDATE: Police Call Off Search For Missing Man

UPDATE: New River Gorge Officials have released the following information: “Be advised the missing person’s vehicle has been located in the park. I will be in touch when I have more information to release. At this time, I am RESCINDING the Media Advisory we released 2 hrs ago. We are NOT asking the public for help at this time. Thank you for your understanding and assistance.”


GLEN JEAN, WV – Rangers at New River Gorge National River are assisting West Virginia State Police in the location of a missing individual.

George Andrew Gross, 56, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was known to be in the Beckley, West Virginia area on Friday, January 12, 2018. His family has not heard from him since he spoke with them that afternoon and expressed interest in hiking in or around New River Gorge National River. To date, his vehicle has not been found in the park.

Gross is 6’1”, and weighs approximately 210 pounds. He has strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. Gross has a tattoo on his left arm of a bulldog with “USMC” underneath. Gross drives a 1998 two-door, silver Dodge Ram 4×4 truck with a Pennsylvania license plate on the back, YDA-1398. A red vanity plate on the front reads “Semper Fi.”
