Police Advise Community to be Cautious After Card Skimmers Found

BECKLEY,WV (WOAY) – This week Police in Beckley found multiple card skimmers at two gas stations.

According to the Beckley Police Dept., multiple citizens reported card fraud in the area. The fraud occurred at similar locations which prompted officers to investigate. Upon investigation police found three skimmers.

Card skimmers are small black devices attached to the end of the card swipe. One was found at the Shell on Harper Road along with two at the One Stop Exxon on Eisenhower.

Besides using cash or paying inside police gave Newswatch, several other tips you should be looking for.

“Look at the pump your using compared to the one beside you. Make sure there’s nothing that looks different and also wiggle it a little. We just ask that you start reviewing your transactions to make sure nothing pops up on your bank statement,”Lt. David S. Allard said.

Police have confirmed that all the skimming devices in the area are officially gone. They are urging customers to check their bank statements if they have purchased gas from those two locations.

It is believed that this incident was caused by someone from another state.
