Peaceful Black Lives Matter Rally Held On WV State Capitol Grounds

A Black Lives Matter rally was held Sunday evening in Charleston, on the West Virginia State Capitol grounds.

According to the West Virginia Capitol Police, it was peaceful and concluded without incident.
The event had been planned for months and organizers say that this was not a rally about the Stonewall Jackson Statue on Capitol grounds. It was originally planned to be held at West Virginia State University, but after the rallies in Charlottesville, many groups reached out. So the group moved the rally to the Capitol in order to accommodate more people.

Organization representatives had met with Capitol Police and other state officials ahead of time to obtain the necessary permits, and to ensure a trouble-free rally.

An estimated 400 people turned out for the evening event, organized by the group Call To Action For Racial Equality.
