Peaceful Black Lives Matter protest takes place in Oak Hill

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – A peaceful and large Black Lives Matter Protest happened this evening in downtown Oak Hill.

More than one hundred people came out to the protest and made their voices heard. The protest was organized by just a small handful of people around the area. Protesters marched down Main Street before gathering at the amphitheater.

One social worker, Quartney Settle, who helped set it up says that the idea of the protest was just to get their message across.

“We just want to get the message out there that racism is not acceptable and black lives do matter. It doesn’t mean that black lives matter more. As you can see, I’m pasty white, and I can say that black lives matter because I’m not threatened by that. It doesn’t mean their life matters more than mine, it means that theirs matters just as much as mine,” Settle said.

The event also had speakers and was catered by a black-owned food business.
