Parkways Authority Approves Changes to WV Turnpike Toll System

BECKLEY– The WV Parkways Authority has approved several changes to the toll system on the West Virginia Turnpike.

These new changes could benefit drivers and will go into effect on January 1st 2019. This will double the toll cost from $2.00 to $4.00. But if you have an EZ-pass in your vehicle and opt to pay $24 for a one cost fee for the next three years you can drive on the West Virginia Turnpike without having to stop and pay tolls.

Gregory Barr, General Manger with the West Virginia Parkways Authority says if you have a transponder you will see a decrease in pricing.

“We still have discounts for every vehicle. So trucks out of state with an EZ-Pass get a 13 percent discount and trucks from West Virginia with a West Virginia EZ-Pass get a 20 percent discount. So everybody gets a discount with a transponder,” Barr said.

The next meeting has been set for July 5 in Charleston.
