Ongoing investigation on the fire at the Monroe County Courthouse

MONROE COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- While there was no loss of records or people, the building did experience a large amount of damage.

Around 3:30 am this morning, smoke was seen coming out of the building and local authorities were called. The fire was found to be between the second and third floors of the building.

Due to this, the county commission held an emergency meeting this morning to declare a County State of Emergency, to help get repairs to the building faster.

The county commission president stated that while there was major damage, it could have been worse, and he’s thankful for the first responders who came. If you’d like to stay informed on the state of repairs, you can go to the County Clerk’s Facebook page.

This is an ongoing investigation, and Newswatch will keep you updated as we learn more.
