Preparations for the 13th annual Friends of Coal Auto Fair have begun at the Raleigh County Memorial Airport. And throughout the weekend, visitors will get to see cars, go on plane rides and carnival rides, eat delicious food, and get to see live performances by some of country music’s biggest stars!
“Think of packing a full weekend into just a few hours at one time. That’s how I describe it. You come in here, there’s so much to do, there’s so much to see!”, Josh Jones, the Public Relations Director from Hospice of Southern West Virginia said.
The weekend activities begin on Friday, July 14th at 8 a.m. and continue all the way through late Saturday evening. Plus, tickets for the fair are only $2 per person!
And what started the fair, remains as the main attraction! An auto show with the best of the best cars in the state will be at the airport all weekend long. Over 500 cars will be displayed in the center grounds.
Colby Gray, one local resident who will be participating in the car show, told us, “It’s West Virginia. We do everything a little bit different here. So if you want to come out and have a good time and kind of show off you, and what you love, it’s the perfect place to do it. There’s a lot of people coming out and wanting to check out everything. Whether it’s a barn find, to something that’s a customized vehicle.”
Awards will be given out to the winning cars at 5 pm on Saturday, and then all of the attention will switch to the main stage where the last hours of the Friends of Coal Auto Fair will be spent watching live performances and fireworks!
“We wish everybody could come out and really enjoy the whole facility. We’re not going to have any rain! It’s going to be pretty, so we’d just love to have everybody come and enjoy the weekend!”, Tom Pugh, a member of the Auto Fair Steering Committee, said.
From the cars to the food and concerts, this weekend offers fun for all ages… and it’s all doable on just one tank of gas!
