One Church Is Delivering A Brighter Christmas To Appalachian Children

SHADY SPRING, WV (WOAY) – One local church is doing their very best to provide Christmas gifts and necessities to students in the elementary and middle schools, to help add a little joy to their Christmas.

The pastor of Nehemiah Baptist Church has made it his mission to help give children in the Appalachian region a brighter Christmas.

“Christmas time can be very difficult time for families economically and we just want to come along side our schools and our country to provide assistance and a little bit of a brighter Merry Christmas.” Said Pastor Brian Harmon

250 Christmas backpacks and 150 Christmas boxes filled with goodies that the students could use and enjoy, were delivered to Ghent Elementary School, Shady Spring Middle School and Beckley Stratton Middle School.

“This year we wanted to add by bringing Christmas backpacks full of toys, edible things, as well as hygiene products and just a way to help kids a little bit of a better Christmas.” Said Pastor Harmon

The last stop for delivery was Beckley Stratton Middle School, students were surprised and excited to help bring the Backpacks and Boxes inside they school, but, they weren’t the only ones.

“It makes me feel proud and just joyous about the spirit that is uplifted in them and that there’s people actually out there willing to give and support our students. They chose us!” Said Principal Yahon Smith

“I just think this is a good way for kids to, you know, get kind of a hug in the form of a gift at Christmas.” Said Leslie Harmon, Digital Reading Teacher
