North-South Classics Moved to July

WOAY – The 2020 North-South Football Classic has been rescheduled for Friday, July 10, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally set for June 13.

The football game will remain at South Charleston High School, pending installation of the new turf field. South Charleston has been the game’s host since 2018.

12 area players are currently on the South Cardinals roster, with Greenbrier East’s Ray Lee named head coach earlier in the spring. Most of the assistant coaches are also from area schools.

Game directors say they will abide by all local and state guidelines, and that the health and safety of players and staff will be a priority when making decisions.

There are reports saying the North-South Boys Basketball Classic has also been moved to July 10, likely in the evening; the football game is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM. Four area players are on the South roster, with Shady Spring’s Ronnie Olson one of the head coaches.
