Nice Start; Sloppy Finish

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The day starts with partly cloudy skies before showers start to develop in the afternoon. However, the most intense of the rainfall and storms will come in the nighttime hours. Most of the area will see the intense rainfall between 7PM and 10PM tonight with showers and storms lingering overnight. Meteorologist Christian Boteler dives into the full forecast:

The main concerns for the showers and thunderstorms coming through the area later today are the flooding and winds. Flood Watches have been issued in Fayette, McDowell, Raleigh, and Wyoming counties until late tonight due to the rain we had on Friday and heavy rain being likely across the region.

An inch of rain is expected in most of the region, with isolated spots gaining up to 2″ of rain within the next 48 hours. These isolated heavier amounts are causing the flooding concerns that have warranted the issued flood watches. Here’s a look at the projected rain totals across the region:

The showers and storms will continue not just tomorrow, but on and off through the rest of the work week. However, besides the strong storm or two tomorrow in our eastern half, we will see less intense rainfall and storms through that period. Temperatures will drop on Thursday as the weather pattern changes and a cold front comes through the region with those lingering showers. Saturday will finally give us a break from the rain with mostly sunny skies before showers return to the area in the afternoon on Sunday and extending into the start of next week.
