New Vape shop ordinance for Raleigh County

Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – The Raleigh County Commission has put out a new vape shop ordinance.

They passed the recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Committee to put some rules on vape shops in the area. The ordinance states that no more new vape shops can be placed in residential areas.

All new vape shops have to be at least one mile from other vape shops, schools, and daycare centers. Shops must also now require a conditional use permit for new vape shops in commercial and industrial zones.

Signs for vape shops now can only be a simple sign, without flashing or led lights.

This ordinance also includes kratom, and delta 8 etc stores.

The reasoning behind this ordinance is to make Raleigh County a better, healthier area for the youth in the community. According to the commission, research shows that these vape shops are designed to attract our youth who would be their long-term customers.

They state that these local policies restricting youth access to these products is an evidence-based strategy to long health outcomes for our kids. The city sends its thanks to the County Attorney, Bill Roop, County Assistant Administrator, Billy Michael, County Commissioners, and their Policy Committee for the ruling.

This ordinance is effective immediately.
