Mt. Hope Housing Authority director to police chief: I will see you fired or dead

FAYETTE CO., WV (WOAY) – The Mt. Hope Housing Authority executive director is in hot water after apparently letting her hot temper get the best of her.

Sonia Yvonne Meredith is charged with threatening Mt. Hope Police Chief Stan Ellison in Mt. Hope Municipal Court last Thursday, telling him that she wanted to either see him fired, or dead, according to the Register-Herald.

According to the criminal complaint, Meredith showed up to court after an unnamed woman pleaded guilty for driving with a suspended license and no insurance.

Meredith went to bat for the woman, apparently demanding to see a copy of the city ordinance as it affected the woman and then giving her legal advice in the courthouse.

A judge asked to speak to Meredith about discussing legal options, which is not allowed.  She got into an argument with him, telling him he had no right to charge the driver with what he did and demanding that he only give her a warning, according to court documents.

On the way out of the courthouse, Ellison says she stopped and told him that, “She would get with an attorney and see that I was fired or she would see me dead.”
WOAY called Ellison this morning.  He said he had no comment.  The housing authority office said Meredith didn’t come to work today.
