
UPDATE: The victim has been identified by his employer as Billy Stalker. Stalker worked for Wright Concrete and Construction. He was working underground at Black Eagle installing seals when the accident happened.
In a Facebook post, Wright construction described him as someone who “was one of the best in the business and knew how to lead with the kindness, guidance, and drive to get the job done and always retain the respect of his men.”
PACKSVILLE, WV (WOAY) – The Mine Safety and Health administration has confirmed reports of a fatal mine accident in Raleigh County last week.
The accident happened on Feb. 28 at around 2:50 p.m. at the Black Eagle underground mine in the Packsville area.
The mine is controlled by Alpha Metallurgical Resources.
According to MSHA, part of the mine face, rib, side or highwall fell. The name of the victim has not been released.
MSHA will release a report with more details in the coming days. We will update you when we hear more.
