Mountaineers picked 8th in Big 12 preseason poll

WOAY – For the second straight year, West Virginia football was picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Conference preseason poll.

The Mountaineers, who will be in their second season under Neal Brown, received 287 total points from media members who voted in the poll. Texas Tech and Kansas were picked ninth and tenth, respectively.

WVU was picked eighth in the 2019 preseason poll, and would finish tied for seventh with a 3-6 conference record (5-7 overall). Their Big 12 wins came against Kansas, Kansas State, and TCU.

Oklahoma is the favorite to win a sixth straight conference title, receiving 80 first-place votes and 888 total points. Oklahoma State and Texas also received first-place votes. Baylor, the only Big 12 team with a first-year head coach, was picked fifth.

West Virginia is currently scheduled to open the 2020 season in Atlanta against Florida State on September 5. Their conference opener is slated for September 26 against Kansas State in Morgantown; TCU, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Baylor would also be traveling to Milan Puskar Stadium.
