BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Mountain State Centers for Independent Living held their annual Valentine’s Day Bazaar this afternoon.
The event had several vendors from the area selling a range of things from clothes to food.
The Mountain State Center maintains that the reason for these events, is so that they can raise money to continue to help the community and this event was no different.
The money raised during the bazaar was for a local man whose been on their waiting list in need of new hearing aids.
Kelly Elkins Community Resources Facilitator says, “Due to state and federal budget cuts that list has been a little longer so what were doing is small fundraisers to help chisel away those numbers and try to decrease how many people we have on our waiting list.”
The center does not charge for its services to the public it solely relies on federal funding and donations.
“We have reached our goal to purchase the hearing aids,” Kelly adds.
If you would like to make a donation or to simply volunteer your time you can stop by their office at 329 Prince st. located in Beckley or give call them at 304-255-0122.
