Mount Hope Police Chief Works Holidays So Officers Can Spend Time With Family

MOUNT HOPE, WV (WOAY) – As thanksgiving is coming to a close many of our own first respondents still attended work.

The Chief of Police in Mount Hope steps in to answer calls during the holidays.  Enjoying a hearty meal, spending time with family and friends is a traditional way to spend Thanksgiving. But for one Police department giving his offices time off is special meaning for one Chief of Police.

Mount Hope Chief Stan Ellison has been serving and protecting for over 30 years.  He tells us, thank you to the four officers that serve underneath him by giving them the day off with their family.

“I have probably worked every Holiday.  You know in my lifetime, now that I’ve got older, I’ve got young officers out here that have small children.  My children are grown and I give them the day off, so I can stand in and answer the calls,” said Chief Stan Ellison of Mount Hope Police Department.

Ellison says it’s important to let the community know even during the holidays law enforcement is out there to protect the community.
