Mercer County Announces Teacher of The Year

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – One Mercer County teacher has just been awarded teacher of the year.

The Mercer County Board of Education held their annual announcement on which teacher out of all 26 schools has performed the best.

Cheers filled the entire Straley Stallion Elementary gymnasium as 3rd grade teacher James Suroski was surprised with the prestigious award.

For his accomplishments, Suroski was given a new handcrafted wooden desk for his classroom. He adds that his current desk is slowly “falling apart so this new desk couldn’t have came at a better time.

Suroski would like the community to know one thing. “Thank you for your support and sending your kids to school and being here. Because that’s what I’m here for, it’s to help the kids and learn but not only the subjects I teach but the skills to become productive citizens in our community and state.”

The Mercer County Board of education would like to thank all the teachers in the county for all of their hard work.
