WOAY – The Mountain East Conference announced changes to its fall sports schedule Tuesday afternoon, with the start of regular season competition moved to October.
The league’s Board of Directors has been closely monitoring how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected its member schools, announcing earlier this summer that teams would not compete against non-conference opponents. Among the changes announced Tuesday were:
-Football preseasons would start September 7, all additional fall sports on Sept. 14
-Competitions would begin October 1 at the earlier
-Contests originally scheduled in September would be moved to the spring semester
-Conference tournaments for soccer and volleyball will be moved to spring
With these adjustments, Concord football’s season opener would now be October 3 vs. Fairmont State. The Mountain Lions were originally slated to host Glenville State, and travel to West Virginia Wesleyan and Frostburg State in September.
MEC officials say it is possible that the start of competition may be moved to late October, or that all fall sports may be moved entirely to the spring semester.
