McDowell Deputies Could Still Lose Their Jobs

WELCH– The jobs of six McDowell County Sheriff’s Deputies are still in limbo.

Earlier this month it was announced that six McDowell County Sheriff’s Deputies would lose their jobs due to funding issues. Then their jobs were seemingly saved after the commission voted to reallocate funds from the ambulance service to the sheriff’s department. But now that could all change. During the general election a new county commissioner was elected. This new commissioner will take office next month. Because this will technically be a new county commission, this new commission now must vote to allow the funds to continue to be reallocated. The sheriff is inviting the public to come to the first commission meeting of the year on January 3rd and show their support once again for the sheriff’s department and help these deputies keep their jobs.
