McDowell County Schools To Use Spring Break For Make-Up Days

MCDOWELL COUNTY, W.V. (WOAY) – McDowell County Schools has revised their school calendar to make-up the nine days lost due to the teacher walkout.

To ensure MCS students receive 180 days of instruction for the 17-18 school year, McDowell County Schools will convert the Spring Break days of April 4, 5, and 6, 2018 to instructional days. The first 3 days of Spring Break (March 30, April 2, and April 3) will NOT be converted to instructional days. The last day of instruction for students will be June 1, 2018, pending no further loss of instructional days this school year.

We understand the need to acknowledge and respect family plans previously scheduled April 4-6, 2018, which cannot be canceled or rescheduled. In these instances, we ask families to provide a letter to your child’s principal explaining your circumstances. The resulting student absence will be marked excused and WILL NOT count against a student for truancy.
