McDowell County, WV (WOAY) – One person is dead as a result of a fire in McDowell County.
According to a media release from the Office of the West Virginia State Fire Marshal, on Saturday April 19, 2025, a 71-year-old man died in a house fire at a home on Skygusty Highway in the Squire area of McDowell County.
Multiple fire departments as well as investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the fire.
Because of extensive damage to the home, the cause of the fire has been ruled as undetermined by investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The victim’s body has been sent to the WV Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and autopsy.
