UPDATE: McDowell County Man Identified After Being Struck By A Train

UPDATE: On Monday, September 4 at 1159 pm, Senior Trooper JC Woods and Senior Trooper EW Boothe of the Welch Detachment responded to a pedestrian being struck by a train in the Elkhorn area of McDowell County.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that an unidentified male had been walking on a series of adjacent railroad tracks in the Elkhorn area when he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train. He was pronounced deceased at the scene due to his injuries and transported to the Welch Community Hospital to await possible identification and notification of family. The male was later identified by family members as 41-year-old Jerrod Deshawn Ivy of Elkhorn, McDowell County.

The investigation is still pending and the lead investigator is Trooper Woods


ELKHORN, WV (WOAY) – One man is dead after being struck by a train in McDowell County.

Srgt. Daniel with West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment tells WOAY that a man was walking on the train tracks in Elkhorn when he was struck by a train.

The incident happened around midnight. The man’s name has not been released at this time but police say he was a 41-year-old man from Elkhorn.

He was pronounced dead on the scene and transported to Welch Community Hospital.

Srgt. Daniel wants to remind people to not walk on railroad tracks because it is trespassing.
