McDowell County man charged with murder after mother was found unresponsive and later died

WAR, WV (WOAY) – A man has been charged with murder after his mother was found unresponsive and later died.

According to a press release, on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at around 4:30 pm, War Police, along with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the War area of McDowell County.

Officers found Patty Hawkins, 77, of War unresponsive.  Jan Care Ambulance transported Hawkins to Welch Hospital, where she later died.

Her soon, Pete Douglas Hawkins, 46, who lives at the home was arrested and charged with murder.

Hawkins was arranged before Magistrate Richard VanDyke, and no bond was set.

The investigation is still ongoing; if anyone has any information, please contact the War Police Department or the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
