Masonic Cornerstone Dedication Held For New Beckley Police Station

Raleigh County., WV (WOAY) – The Beckley Police Department is preparing for their new headquarters, local members of the 95th Mason Lodge held a Cornerstone Dedication for the newest City of Beckley building.

Over 100 masons, community members and public officials filled the parking lot of the upcoming Beckley PD headquarters.

Beckley Chief of Police Lonnie Christian adds, “This was a dedication not just to the city but the Police Department a public facility, we have a department of public servants and we serve the public.”

Several of the members took to the podium to express their joy and appreciation for the new building. The Mason’s also announced that these dedications are only performed on churches, schools and masonic buildings.

There also was a “casket” which is similar to a capsule, that is placed in the cement blocks. The casket can not be opened unless the building is demolished, it will consist of things from the City of Beckley.

The Masons announced that this was their 16th building that they had the honor of doing a cornerstone dedication to in the City of Beckley.  The last building a dedication was held on was in the 1960’s at the Municipal Center.

One of the main reasons for building the new headquarters was due to a lack of space and increase in maintenance issues. The new building has all Beckley PD staff members excited.

“We get to design it how it needs to be that way we can not only operate efficiently but we can meet certain qualification requirements it’s a very exciting time for all of us and the officers,” Christian adds.

The Beckley PD plans to start transitioning into the new building sometime in late September or early October.
