Man Steals Tractor From Homeowners So He Could Cut His Grass

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – One man is behind bars after breaking into a home and stealing a tractor.

Arthur Stump, 22, of Meadow Bridge allegedly broke into a garage at 1 am through a side door, that had been left unlocked accidentally.   Stump raised the garage door to steal the victim’s tractor.  Stump used the keys that were left in the brand new 2017 tractor.  The loud noise woke the homeowners up.  A witness looked down at the defendant from the bedroom and the defendant attempted to say something to her as he drove the tractor away.   The husband jumped into his car and located the Stump driving the tractor on Hedrick St., crossing Eisenhower drive.  Stump stopped the tractor on the side of the road, jumped off, approached the husband to tell him, “he was going to cut his grass”.  Stump then took off running.

Deputies later found Stump at a residence where he was staying.

Stump is charged with grand larceny and burglary.  He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a 10,000 dollar bond.
