Man Punches Pregnant Wife Eight Times In Stomach, Crashes Car Leaving Two Small Children In The Cold & Snow

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A Wyoming County man is in jail after punching his pregnant wife in her stomach eight times and driving drunk with his small children in the car, eventually crashing into a utility pole.

According to court documents, Charles Bishop II became demanding after leaving a Christmas party at the Tamarack while drunk.  The wife, approximately eight months pregnant told police she had not felt the baby move since Bishop had punched her eight times in the stomach.  Bishop said to the wife to get out of the car, and he took off driving with his two small children in the car.  He was impaired, and she began to yell for help. Bishop ran off the road and struck a utility pole and then over an embankment on Harper Road.  Bishop got out of the car and began to run behind a building leaving his small children in the car.

According to Police, had it not been for witnesses to call in the children could have been left for hours or days in the cold and snowy conditions.

Police observed his wife’s right eye to be swollen, turning black and marks on her stomach where he punched her.

Bishop is charged with domestic battery, two counts of child neglect creating a risk of injury or death, and driving under the influence with child endangerment.  He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
