Man Is Behind Bars After Leading Police On Chase Through Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY (WOAY) – A man has been arrested and is in jail tonight after he led police on a chase Friday afternoon on the West Virginia Turnpike.

Authorities tell WOAY News that Jesse Nathan Bell, 24, from Weston, WV stole a Tractor Trailer Truck from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Princeton a little after the noon hour on Friday heading northbound. Police received calls of reckless driving along the West Virginia Turnpike and caught up with the suspect around mile marker 40 in attempt to stop him, which was unsuccessful. Police say they tried using two stop sticks but that didn’t work to stop Bell. During the second attempt of stop sticks, Bell did run off the road and headed towards a Trooper. Weston got back on the road and police tried a third time to use stop sticks and were successful. Bell ended up crashing on the side of the road at mile marker 66 in Mahan, WV (Fayette County).

Bell was apprehended without incident and was taken into custody. He was arraigned by the Fayette County Magistrate Court and is in the Southern Regional Jail on a $100,000 dollar bond.

In Fayette County, Bell is facing Two Counts of Attempted Homicide, Fleeing From Officers Showing Reckless Indifference, and Receiving/Transferring Stolen Property.

More charges could be brought against Bell in Mercer County.

West Virginia State Police is handling the investigation, while no one was injured, one State Trooper Vehicle was totaled.
