Beckley, WV (WOAY)- One person is in police custody following an attempt to flee the scene of a car accident.

According to Sheriff Frank Priddy, deputies responded to the 600 block of Old Eccles Road on Tuesday, September 2, following a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, authorities learned that the male driver and female passenger of one of the vehicles had fled the scene on foot.

Thanks to the swift actions of nearby bystanders, the male subject was detained until deputies arrived.

He was later identified as 37-year-old William Marshall and was taken into custody by Corporal S. McClure.

Authorities charged Marshall with a second offense of driving with a revoked license.

He awaits further court proceedings at the Southern Regional Jail on a $3,000 bail.

Corporal J. Howard and his K-9 partner, Scio, tracked the female passenger into a nearby wooded area, where she was discovered unable to move due to a leg injury.
