Man Charged in Capitol Break In

CHARLESTON–┬áCapitol police said a man has been charged after he used a metal sign post to smash through a door and gain entry into the West Virginia Capitol.

Israel Gideon Emanuel Higgins, 21, of Pittsburgh is charged with breaking and entering, destruction of property and fleeing, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Police said Higgins used a sign post on Monday morning to break through the doors on the south side of Building No. 1. He ran after he was ordered to stop, police said.

While being booked, police said, Higgins ran from the booking area in Building 1 and was ordered to stop. He was taken back into custody at the north end of the west wing in Building 1.
