BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Two Main Street buildings that were set to be demolished this week have been stalled to a later date.
The wrecking crew told city officials that a third building could be damaged during the demolition. Beckley Mayor Rob Rappold told WOAY the wrecking crew has delayed demolishing the buildings by a few days to come up with a new strategy and will continue demolition later this week.
“It’s a tough job to start with because of the close quarters with buildings on either side and then the buildings on the other side of the alley in the back. It’s a difficult demolition job, they have to be very careful taking the buildings down,” said Mayor Rappold.
Main Street has been closed to traffic since June 24th, and according to Mayor Rob Rappold, the street will not reopen until the demolition is complete.
