Locals hold independent food drive for kids in need

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A small, independent group of people held a small food drive and gave away free meals to kids.

The drive was held in downtown Beckley, and folks stayed in their vehicles to avoid contact with others. Jamie Cook, the woman in charge of the event said she is used to running local food drives and is happy to give back to the community.

“And whenever I moved back home in 2014, I started running a food pantry out of our garage. I just couponed so every time I would get a bunch of stuff, we would just go to places. Either donate to churches or we would set up somewhere and give it out.”

This weekend they plan to give away 500 bags of food, with each bag containing two meals and snacks for kids.
