PRINCETON, WV (NEWS RELEASE) – At noon tomorrow, U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) will present the Purple Heart to the siblings of the late World War II veteran Lacy Walker of McComas. The presentation will take place at the Vietnam Veterans of America building in Princeton.
Private First Class Lacy Walker served in the Army’s 2nd Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received during battle, and he was killed in action in France on July 26, 1944.
His brother Landon Walker, sister Jewel Akel, and stepsister Virginia Phillips will accept the Purple Heart on their brother’s behalf. Mr. Walker never received the honors he was due, so Virginia Phillips contacted Rep. Jenkins to see if he could help secure these medals in recognition of Mr. Walker’s service.
The Princeton JROTC will present the colors during Saturday’s ceremony.
The event is open to veterans, the public and the media.
