Local dog park sees new renovations to memorialize police K9s

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The Doc Hamilton K9 Memorial and Dog Park in Oak Hill has been getting some upgrades lately.

The park was created three years ago and in recent months has seen new landscaping, fencing and attractions for dog walkers.

Mike Lively of Destination Downtown Oak Hill says some of the dog park’s upgrades will further its use as a memorial for police K9s.

“Three Fayette County K9s and one Oak Hill Police K9 that have passed away, their ashes are gonna be interred here. And we’ll add them to the mausoleum, that’s the memorial part,” Lively said.

The park is also taking donations where anyone who donates $25 will get a picture of their dog pinned to the park’s fence.

As of now, the park remains open to the public during the pandemic.
