GLEN JEAN W.VA – (WOAY) National parks all throughout the nation are also facing closure if the government shuts down. That includes our very own New River Gorge. This wouldn’t be the first time, the New River Gorge is facing closure.
The Gorge closed in 2013 after the government temporarily shutdown. Julena Campbell, The Public Affairs Officer of the park is hopeful the venue stays open.
“We fully expect the government to remain open, however in the event of a shutdown, national parks, including the three here in Southern West Virginia will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures,” Campbell adds.
Officials told Newswatch that, “facilities and services that require staffing and maintenance such as visitor centers and our headquarters administrative buildings will not be operating.”
Officials do have until midnight to place their votes.
