Legislators propose 15% to 25% tax rate for new states adopting internet gambling

West Virginia (AP)- Lawmakers from states with legalized gambling are proposing standards for other states considering allowing internet betting.

The National Council of Legislators from Gaming States drafted model legislation for states that are weighing whether to permit internet gambling.

During next week’s council meeting, members will discuss a model legislation proposing tax rates of 15% to 25% and a ban on credit card deposits.

The Council designed the proposal to give a framework for state legislation while incorporating things working well in states where gambling is legal.

Seven states including West Virginia currently offer legal online casino games.
