Last day of early voting sees small turnout

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Today was the last day that people were able to vote early in West Virginia.

To help encourage people to get out and vote, Beckley Mayoral Candidate Tony Martin held a small vote party. According to him, local elections are the most important ones to participate in, because that is where the most change is possible.

“I want people to realize that that change happens on a local level. That’s your mayors, your city council people, your county commissioners, your county prosecutors. That is where we can affect the most change as citizens of this country,” Martin said.

According to Martin, less than a dozen people came out to vote with him at the Raleigh County Courthouse, but he claimed any one person heading out to vote is better than none.

The next available day for voting will be election day on June 9.
