Kidnapping Suspect in Custody After Missing Teen Found Safe

BECKLEY– Police have filed a kidnapping charge against a 20-year-old man who they say pulled a 16-year-old girl from a Beckley pharmacy bathroom and forced her into a vehicle.

News outlets report that Lawrence E. Asbury III was arrested less than two hours after Jaddah Rodgers was found safe Thursday afternoon in the nearby town of Raleigh. Authorities say Rodgers had bruises but was otherwise unharmed.

An Amber Alert for Rodgers had been issued Wednesday evening after police say Asbury assaulted Rodgers and forced her inside his vehicle.

Asbury has been charged with kidnapping and is being held without bond. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

It is unclear where Asbury was apprehended or where exactly Rodgers was found. Online jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney.
