Journey of Hope Stops in Beckley

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – The Journey of Hope made a stop at the Mountain State Centers for Independent Living Office to deliver a grant Friday afternoon and Mayor Rappold provided a Proclamation which declared August 3rd a Day of Hope in Beckley.

The Journey of Hope is a coast to coast bike ride that consists of three routes. The North, Trans-America and South route. The Trans-American Route consisted of 34 college students that are all in the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. The Social fraternity is working to help celebrate the abilities of all people.

The bikers have raised over $700,000 this summer alone with each biker have raised a minimum of $5,500 to begin their trip. The brothers average 80 miles a day and will arrive in Washington D.C and complete their journey August 11th at the capitol building.

We met up with members from the Virginia Tech chapter who have sent 12 bikers on the journey for the past two years.
