CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY)- The statewide teacher and school service personnel walkout regarding PEIA has finally come to a close.
“I’m still trying to pull it all in and really soak it in to really understand exactly what they are going to do,” said Anthony Lucas, School Bus Driver.
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced Tuesday evening that teachers will return to work on Thursday.
“Nobody loves education more than me. Nobody loves our teachers more than me. I have done stuff, lots of stuff,” said Governor Justice.
While Governor Justice agreed to a 5% increase for school service personnel and a 3% increase for other state employees, some teachers are still unhappy with the decision that was shared Tuesday evening.
“We can’t live with PEIA the way it is right now. The five percent will be taken at the first doctor visit we go to. And if we have to go back to the table we will, we have to fight for PEIA,” said Linda Bennst, Cafeteria Manager.
The pay raise proposal still needs to be approved by the West Virginia House and Senate.
