CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH Reports) — Officials say an inmate was found unresponsive at South Central Regional Jail Monday morning.
Jeffrey Curtis Craig, 51, was found unresponsive in his cell, an email from a spokesman with the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety said.
Officers reported the medical emergency and Craig was pronounced dead within about 30 minutes after officers found him unresponsive, the spokesman said.
Craig was booked March 23, 2018, on first-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent or custodian, the spokesman said.
An initial investigation shows Craig suffered possible head injuries.
An internal review is underway and West Virginia State Police are investigating.
