Inert grenade confiscated at Yeager Airport TSA checkpoint

CHARLESTON, WV (NEWS RELEASE) — At approximately 9:20 a.m. Yeager Airport Police confiscated a grenade device from John Gregg Goodykoontz at the TSA security check point.
Goodykoontz, 61, is a resident of Bridgeport, WV and the grenade was located in his carry on bag.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad determined that the grenade was an inert
device. He was issued a citation under 500.3 of Yeager Airport Rules and Regulations for attempting
to carry a prohibited item into the sterile area of the airport and 61-3E(a) of the West Virginia State
Code, transporting or possession of a hoax bomb.

Yeager Airport Executive Director Terry Sayre said, “We regret any inconvenience caused by the delay
to passengers caused by this incident, but the safety and security of the public and of our employees is
always our primary concern. I would like to thank the TSA, the Yeager Airport Police and the
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad for their professionalism and for their quickness in resolving this issue.”
