BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – After a month of action-packed games, the Upper Deck high school summer baseball league has officially come to an end.
In the championship, Independence defeated Summersville 14-1 to take home the crown. Independence’s Atticus Goodson dominated on the mound, pitching a complete game.
The semifinals took place earlier in the same day. Independence beat Oak Hill 5-4, while Summersville advanced thanks to a 4-3 win over Greenbrier East.
Independence’s victory was especially sweet for players, given the cancellation of high school baseball in the spring.
Next up, Epling Stadium will host an all-star game for area 2020 high school seniors. That contest is scheduled to take place on August 15.
