Hurricane Florence evacuations are causing many hotels to fill and shelves empty in West Virginia

WEST VIRGINIA (WOAY)- West Virginians are also helping the hurricane victims, as thousands in the Carolinas leave their homes behind and begin a journey into the unknown.

Hundreds of evacuees from the coast started arriving in town after spending hours on the road in traffic.

This morning, hotel rooms are extremely hard to find, grocery store shelves are starting to get picked over- and many are heading to the gas station to fill up.

If you know someone having trouble finding a place to stay in the area, State parks are offering a 55-percent discount on rooms, cabins and campsites until September 18th.

It is likely we will see some flooding and possible power outages in Southern West Virginia over the weekend.
