Hinton, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia State Water Festival offers good food, fun, community, and a cool break from the steamy summer.
A staple for more than 50 years, the festival continues to honor Hinton’s rivers and waterways.
Chewning’s Rollin’ BBQ & More cooks everything by hand and sources their ingredients from Sam’s Club in Beckley.
“We try to keep profit for everybody, like local businesses, and our local business here,” said Jessica Turner, adding that Chewning’s loaded nachos are their biggest seller.
“It’s got chips, barbecued chili, sour cream, cheese, a little bit of everything,” she said they enjoy serving their hometown. “It’s nice to see different people from around everywhere.”
A local nonprofit that partners with beekeepers in economically distressed counties brought along the bees’ nectar and its endless benefits.
“I have a variety of our liquid honeys today, trying to spread our product around,” said Appalachian Beekeeping Collective Mentor Clinton Taylor. “Our honey is unprocessed, so all of the good microbes and everything are still in the honey.”
According to Taylor, none of the pollen remnants remain in most store-bought honey.
