Hinton Area Elementary School Placed On Modified Lockdown

HINTON (WOAY) A custody situation caused Hinton Area Elementary School to be placed under a modified lockdown Tuesday Morning.

Regarding the lockdown at Hinton Area Elementary: We’ve received some questions about the modified lockdown at Hinton Area Elementary this morning. On Monday, there was a custody situation that occurred outside of the school and had no relation to the school other than the situation involved a child which does attend HAE.

HAE’s Administration along with the Superintendent contacted us about taking extra security measures at the school today as a precautionary measure. Neither the school faculty or us were ever made aware of any threat, possible threat, or had any reason or indication to believe that anything negative would happen today. HPD simply partnered with the school to take extra measures to ensure your children were safe.

“I personally have two children who attend this school and they are there today. Personally I think it’s a fantastic idea to have the police present at the school as often as possible as it’s another step to ensure our children’s safety.” Said Hinton Police Chief Derek Snavely
