High school football teams begin preseason practice

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It may look a little different compared to previous years, but high school football teams in Southern West Virginia began their preseason practices Monday.

Teams will have just under three weeks to get ready for the first week of games, which officially begins Thursday, September 3rd. Most area teams will open the season that Friday, September 4th.

Oak Hill has a new head coach for 2020, as David Moneypenny reunites with several players from the Fayetteville teams of 2017-18. The Red Devils have been one of the few area teams to take advantage of the summer practice options dating back to the start of July, and Moneypenny says that has made an impact in the opening practices of preseason.

WOAY Sports will begin football team previews on Wednesday with the Red Devils, and will highlight one area team each day leading up to the first Friday of the season. Our Fabulous Football Friday season premiere will be Friday, September 4.
