WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The word of the day is “hot”, as we’ll be getting into the low 90s by the afternoon and staying hot and humid through the first half of the week. The Heat Index, which takes humidity into account, is likely to reach 100 degrees today and tomorrow in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Advisory for parts of Fayette, McDowell, Nicholas, Raleigh, and Wyoming counties through Wednesday. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the full forecast:
Tuesday will be the worst day of the heat wave for our area, with record-breaking temperatures on the forecast and even higher heat indices thanks to humid conditions. Remember to have plenty of water, sunscreen, and shade if you plan on any outdoor activities through the first half of the week. Do not leave children or pets in cars and make sure you have an adequate cooling system in your home.
With the hot conditions prevailing, it’s important to listen to our bodies when outside, especially for an extended period of time. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are the main heat related illnesses, which should be taken seriously if you feel any symptoms while outside. Below is a graphic going over symptoms and what to do if you feel any of them:

Hot temperatures will continue to stick around as slight chances of storms and showers will begin to pop up Wednesday night. We’ll continue to see on and off storms through the rest of the week as high pressure begins to weaken. This promotes instability and convection, resulting in scattered thunderstorms and showers across the region. The chances will slowly climb through the week into the weekend, although the trend leans towards scattered storms rather than a system moving through the area at this time. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
